ECO Health Tourism Statement was approved in the Closing Ceremony of the first Health Tourism Conference in Mazandaran
The first Health Tourism Conference in Mazandaran closed by reading and approving a 23-item statement. According to the public Relation Department of Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences, the full statement is as follows:

The first Health Tourism Conference in Mazandaran closed by reading and approving a 23-item statement.

According to the public Relation Department of Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences, the full statement is as follows:

We, delegations from ECO member countries, emphasize on the development of ECO region as a tourism destination, focusing on items E and 2N of Treaty of Izmir, and issues concerning ECO Vision 2015.

Also, recalling the statement of the first Ministerial Meeting on Tourism (Tehran, 2008) regarding  developing health tourism, recalling 24th Meeting of RPC Regional Planning Council on holding this confobition, the mechanisms of health tourism development are emphasized, considering the approvals of the first and second Coordination Committee Meeting on ECO Health Tourism (Mashhad, 2012 and 2013).

According to this statement:

1.      We want ECO countries to develop regional cooperation on health tourism through promoting necessary mechanisms, such as database networks and professional associations, and emphasizing on the necessity of “ECO Health Network”.

2.      We invite the ECO countries to develop and diversify health tourism products and services according to the increasing needs of regional and international markets, through developing national policies and strategies in health tourism.

3.      We encourage the ECO members to support health tourism cooperation through providing legal and management supports for the beneficiaries, such as health tourists, physicians providing healthcare services for hospitals, and entrepreneurs

4.      We welcome the suggestion of the Islamic Republic of Iran to create “ECO Health Tourism Network”, and invites ECO countries to join and develop it.

5.      We emphasize on the need for travel facilities and visas for health tourists who seek medical treatments overseas, and want ECO countries to rapidly formulate a guideline to those in need such as patients and physicians.

6.      We emphasize on promoting intersectional cooperation between tourism and health industry organizations regarding regional health tourism, especially in private sectors of ECO countries.

7.       We support formulating and employing International Standards through hospitals, tour leaders, physicians, and specialists providing healthcare services, and supports their interactions to achieve “the ECO Accreditation System”.

8.      We emphasize on the need for capacity building and educational programs for health tourism service providers, and invites ECO members to hold training courses, studying tours, field visits, academic courses and workshops.

9.      We emphasize on the use of academic terms and scientific literature in regional health tourism, considering the effects of health tourism on local communities and the need for equitable allocation of resources.

10. We emphasize on the need for capacity building and training programs for health tourism service providers

11. Considering the importance of easy and timely handling of the health tourists to their destinations, we look for the contribution of the transport sections of health tourism industry of the countries through direct flights and other transporting systems.

12. We want the insurance industry to develop local and international health insurance plans.

13. We welcome the suggestion of the Islamic Republic of Iran on holding “Health Tourism Week” in ECO region as a marketing and advertising initiative, and invite the member countries.

14.  We encourage the ECO countries to participate in international exhibitions and events, and use other marketing tools to advertise products.

15. Considering the successful experience of holding the “First ECO Health Tourism Confobition”, we encourage the ECO countries to hold such advertising events on health tourism along with health tourism meetings.

16. We want tourism and healthcare authorities and ministries of the  ECO countries to make the necessary arrangements to develop health tourism industry through participation of the representatives in policy making meetings.

17. We want national, regional and international affiliated organizations to provide their technical support on health tourism development in the ECO countries.

18. We want national, regional, and international (public and private) financial institutes to support plans and programs of health tourism development in the ECO countries through establishing funds and joint companies.

19. We consider the suggestion of the Islamic Republic of Iran on creating health cities in Mazandaran Province in cooperation with ECO countries.

20. We emphasize on the need for creating technical workshops to find strategies regarding implementation of the objectives of this statement.

21. We express its sincere thanks and appreciation to the government and people of the Islamic Republic of Iran, especially local people and authorities of Mazandaran Province, Ramsar city, and also Ministry of Health, Iran Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization, Mazandaran Chamber of Commerce, Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture for their warm welcome hospitality, and excellent arrangements to hold the “First ECO Health Tourism Confobition” in Ramsar city.

22. We thank the member countries for their active cooperation and participation regarding the successful results of this conference. Also, we thank the ECO Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the ECO Secretariat for their exemplary and fruitful efforts on this conforbition.

23. We want the ECO countries to follow up the implementation of this statement and send their performance report through ECO secretariat to the Meeting of Tourism and Health Ministers.
